Grief

Grief

I had my own notion of grief,
I thought it was a sad time, a period brief.
That followed the death of someone you love,
Or losing something that you like to have.
And you have to push through it,
With all your energy, bit by bit.
Until you get to the other side,
That is sunny, that is bright.

But I am learning there is no other side,
There is no pushing through, but only to glide.
There is absorption, adjustment, and acceptance,
You don't have to fight it, you just need endurance.
Grief is not something that you compete,
Neither is a challenge, that you've to face it.
Grief is not a task to finish and move on...

Grief is an element of yourself, an alteration of your being,
Grief is a new definition of self, a new way of seeing.
